THIS WEEK AT CORNERSTONE
January 13, 2010
Rich Cartier begins his class on the Book of 1st Corinthians tomorrow evening. Please call, email, or tell Rich if you plan to attend.
Two Russian Bible Studies take place every Wednesday, 6:15 p.m., at the Parkway Baptist facility. The adults are led by Ion Cheptene and the youth by Terry Reznikov. Child care is provided.
Cornerstone’s Annual Congregational Meeting schedule is now final. Here are the dates to put on your calendars:
Saturday, February 6th – The first Forum will be held in the Sanctuary, 9:00-10:00 a.m.
Tuesday, February 16th – A second Forum will be held in the Sanctuary, 7:00-8:00 p.m.
Sunday, February 21st, one week prior to the Annual Meeting, copies of the written Annual Report will be available at church to everyone so you have time to read through it.
Sunday, February 28th – Annual Congregational Meeting in the Sanctuary. A potluck will begin at 5:00 p.m. and the meeting will begin at 6:00 p.m., with childcare available (volunteers are needed – if you or your teens can help, please contact the church office). A list of food for the potluck will be publicized mid-February.
Do you have time to touch a heart while you play? The Cornerstone MOPS ministry needs additional adult caregivers this semester. The commitment is only two mornings a month, and homeschoolers who have a desire to work with children are more than welcome. Meetings are the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of each month from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The pay is $20, or you can volunteer your services to further benefit the ministry of MOPS. Contact Christine Mosley (314.324.3886) or Dana Stuemke (314.646.7597).
Our “Lost and Found” bin is starting to overflow. If you have lost or misplaced something, please check this bin to see if it’s there. We plan to empty and donate the contents to Goodwill next week.
Bulletin Board Notices: We have added a new posting for an opening at Christ Community Church. Please see the “Opportunities” bulletin board alongside the Sanctuary if you know anyone who may be interested. Feel free to take a copy as several are available.
A beautiful thank you Christmas card was received from a soldier to whom we sent cookies in early December through our soldiers ministry. He writes: To the Martin Family & Cornerstone E Free Church, Thank you all so much for the cookies. My unit and I enjoyed them immensely; they were delicious. I’ll have to admit that although I did share the Gooey Butter Chocolate cookies, I did save most of those for myself. I’ve never had them before and I loved them! I am doing well over here and the conditions of living are better than I anticipated. There is a lot of work to do, but at least when I am not working I am comfortable. Also, the support and care packages I have received from the loving people back home is overwhelming. I thank you all for your support and patriotism. May the blessings and protection of God fill your hearts and lives this Christmas season and in the new years to come until His return. Sincerely, Brent Loyd – NSW Al Asad
MISSIONS
The Brockman family (Ernie, Denise, Trey and Eli) will be going back to Mexico for another mission trip this summer (June 19 through 26). They invite anyone interested in joining them to contact them directly at 314.963.1295 or emb2×2@juno.com to learn more about it.
Be part of those who teach English to people overseas using the Bible and Skype right from their own home. This is a commitment of an hour per week. The number of students depends on your comfort stage (i.e. 1 student, 5 students, 20 students, etc.). There are three levels: 1st is basic English; 2nd is for those who know some English; and, 3rd is those who speak fluently and want to learn conversational English. We would like to continue this through April. If this interests you, please contact Ion or the church office.
CHILDREN’S MINISTRY
As you take your Christmas decorations down, if you have anything you want or need to dispose of, that’s usable, of course, please consider donating it/them to our Children’s Ministry. Anne Parker would love to have them for the rooms downstairs for next year.
IMPORTANT!! Because we have many 2-year-old’s, we need a third helper in the 9:00 a.m. Sunday morning class. We could also use more helpers in our nursery. Men, you can help, too! Let Anne or the office know.
Attention preschool parents – please pick up your children right after the first service so teachers can make the transition to the second hour.
A two-hour seminar on “How to Lead Young Children to Christ” led by Pastor Terry will be held on Saturday, January 30th, 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., in the Junior Church Room. This is open to anyone interested but we strongly encourage all the teachers of our children to attend. A light breakfast will be served and child care will be provided. Please RSVP to joanne@cornerstonestaff.org.
STUDENT MINISTRY
Saturday, January 16, 8:30-10:00 a.m. Come to the Youth Room for worship, prayer, doughnuts and juice.
Saturday, January 30, 11:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Meet at Pizza Street, 8073 Watson Road, for lunch (bring 5 dollars for the buffet and more for a drink), then walk to the church for a Mario Kart tournament on the big screen. Who will win? Only Aaron knows!
WOMEN’S MINISTRY
Every Tuesday, 9:00-11:00 a.m., Susan Ritland leads a class in the Junior Church Room on the book, Devotional Classics. This is the same class she taught in the evenings last semester. RSVP to Susan at sritland@sbcglobal.net.
“The Power of Praying for Your Adult Children,” a 14-week study by Stormie Omartian, will be offered beginning January 26th for our Tuesday Night Women’s Bible Study, led by Marilyn McDonald. We start at 6:30 p.m. with a bowl of soup, then study and pray from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. If you have children in their late teens or beyond, please join us! To register and obtain required study texts, please e-mail Karol Schoenfeld at karolschoenfeld@gmail.com.
PRAYER REQUESTS
Our condolences go to the Calhoun family upon the death of Tracey’s brother-in-law, Philip Nelson. Tracey thanks everyone for their prayers. Funeral services will be held in Chicago on Saturday. Pray for a safe trip to Chicago for their entire family and keep them in your prayers as they adjust during this time of bereavement. Pray also for Tracey as she has a echo cardiogram scheduled for tomorrow.
Please keep the following in your prayers: For the Russian Jews who invited Jesus into their hearts at the outreach on November 22nd; for Cal and Sue Swan’s son, Ben; Oleg Reznikov and his family; Debbie Showers and her mom, Brenda Meredith; for her friend, Carol Dattoli; and for Karen Felton. Please pray for healing and comfort for everyone mentioned and their families.
Continue to pray for Cornerstone missionaries, students and those going through personal trials and health issues; and, for Immanuel, Pastor Todd and their congregation. Mari Ellen Reeser sent an updated prayer letter. Feel free to pick up a copy from the Prayer Table in the Welcome Center.
The Tuesday evening prayer group has changed to Monday evenings, 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. in the Junior Church Room. The 50/50 prayer group continues to meet every Thursday morning from 7:00 to 8:00 a.m. in the Fireplace Room. Everyone is welcome to join either or both groups.
| If and when you have prayer requests, be sure to call or send them to the church office by Wednesday Noon so they can be included in this communiqué and in Sunday’s bulletin. |
