THIS WEEK AT CORNERSTONE

January 6, 2010

B

ecause of the pending winter storm that is predicted to start tonight, MOPS is cancelled for tomorrow morning and postponed until next week Thursday.  IF we receive the amount of snow currently predicted, the office will also be closed and the student meeting may be cancelled.

Rich Cartier was planning to begin his class on the Book of 1st Corinthians tomorrow evening; however, due to the weather prediction, he is postponing this class until next week Thursday, January 14.  Do call, email, or tell Rich if you plan to attend.

This Sunday, January 10th, all ABF classes will meet together in one special meeting during second hour in the Sanctuary to give everyone an overview of the new classes beginning the following Sunday, January 17th.  Those classes will be:  The Truth Project presented by John Ritland in the Junior Church Room; Principles of Discipleship by Ion Cheptene in the Fireplace Room; and, Becoming Fishers of Men by Pastor Terry in Room 102.

Dear Church Body, We were so surprised and excited to receive the basket of wonderful baby goodies.  Thank you so much for thinking of us and celebrating the birth of Lydia with us.  We were so touched by all the thoughtful gifts like blankets, clothes and Bible.  Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity to us.  We have been so loved and encouraged by you.  We have seen God’s goodness and provision for us through my pregnancy and Lydia’s birth.  Thanks for being evidence of that to us.  We love and miss you.          Matt & Kate Griffiths

MISSIONS

Be part of those who teach English to people overseas using the Bible and Skype right from their own home.  This is a commitment of an hour per week.  The number of students depends on your comfort stage (i.e. 1 student, 5 students, 20 students, etc.).  There are three levels:  1st is basic English; 2nd is for those who know some English; and, 3rd is those who speak fluently and want to learn conversational English.  We would like to continue this through April.  If this interests you, please contact Ion or the church office.

CHILDREN’S  MINISTRY

IMPORTANT!!  Because we have many 2-year-old’s, we need a third helper in the 9:00 a.m. Sunday morning class.  We could also use more helpers in our nursery.  Men, you can help, too!  Let Anne or the office know.

Attention preschool parents – please pick up your children right after the first service so teachers can make the transition to the second hour.

A two-hour seminar on “How to Lead Young Children to Christ” led by Pastor Terry will be held on Saturday, January 30th, 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., in the Junior Church Room.  This is open to anyone interested but we strongly encourage all the teachers of our children to attend.  A light breakfast will be served.  Please RSVP to joanne@cornerstonestaff.org.

STUDENT MINISTRY

At this point, the Thursday evening Bible study resumes tomorrow night, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., in the Youth Room – but please be aware that it may be called off by Aaron after seeing what the weather is doing.

WOMEN’S MINISTRY

Beginning next week on Tuesday, January 12th, 9:00-11:00 a.m., Susan Ritland will lead a class in the Junior Church Room on the book, Devotional Classics.   This is the same class she taught in the evenings last semester.  RSVP to Susan at sritland@sbcglobal.net.

“The Power of Praying for Your Adult Children,” a 14-week study by Stormie Omartian, will be offered beginning January 26th for our Tuesday Night Women’s Bible Study, led by Marilyn McDonald.  We start at 6:30 p.m. with a bowl of soup, then study and pray from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.  If you have children in their late teens or beyond, please join us!  To register and obtain required study texts, please e-mail Karol Schoenfeld at karolschoenfeld@gmail.com.

PRAYER REQUESTS

Continue to pray for Tracey Calhoun and her brother-in-law, Philip Nelson; for the Russian Jews who invited Jesus into their hearts at the outreach on November 22nd; for Cal and Sue Swan’s son, Ben; Oleg Reznikov and his family; Debbie Showers and her mom, Brenda Meredith; for her friend, Carol Dattoli; and for Karen Felton.  Please pray for healing and comfort for everyone mentioned and their families.

Continue to pray for Cornerstone missionaries, students and those going through personal trials and health issues; and, for Immanuel, Pastor Todd and their congregation.

The prayer groups which meet every Tuesday evening from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. in the Junior Church Room and every Thursday morning from 7:00 to 8:00 a.m. in the Fireplace Room resume following our holiday break.

If and when you have prayer requests, be sure to call or send them to the church office by Wednesday Noon so they can be included in this communiqué and in Sunday’s bulletin.

SERVING CORNERSTONE

We can always use help somewhere.  Sign up through the Welcome sheet in your Sunday bulletin or call or email the church office to joanne@cornerstonestaff.org  and we will plug you in.
